What we do

Technical services

PENGGWMC has an in-house technical services team of engineers and technicians to assist customers in developing new products and resolving technical issues. Their knowledgeable staff in wire and spring manufacturing works on-site, acting as an extension of their business to ensure they receive necessary support.

New product development and product enhancement

Our technical service representatives work with customers in developing new products. We carefully review all specifications for the desired wire product and translate that information into a custom manufacturing method. Trial orders are run and coordinated with our customers so that product specifications are perfected before full-scale production begins.

Metallurgical laboratory

Our fully staffed metallurgical laboratory is used to analyze field- and customer-related issues and work on quality improvement activities. Our laboratory uses the latest microscopic and photographic laboratory equipment. All technical reports are electronically sent to customers and suppliers with a goal of providing feedback within five days of an impending issue.

PENGGWMC’s extensive line of spring wire products includes valve and commercial-quality grade wires in carbon and alloy steels, in round. They are also available in a variety of diameters, from .0197” (0.5 mm) to .350” (8.9 mm). 

OTMB

Quenched-and-tempered spring wire produced to ASTM A229, Class 1 and Class 2. It is intended primarily for static applications or applications that do not involve significant fatigue loading.

General information:

Valve spring wire is the highest-quality wire available and is manufactured to specifications that require superior surface quality, internal cleanliness, and virtually no decarburization. All valve spring quality wire goes through a surface removal operation to eliminate seams, handling damage, and decarburization from the rod.

Applications:

Valve spring wire is used for demanding applications that include dynamic loading at very high stress levels. Typical examples include springs for engine valves, automatic transmissions, clutch springs, fuel injectors, pumps, generators, and air compressors. The rod used for this grade of wire offers minimal inclusion content and is appropriate for applications where the anticipated stress or fatigue levels are severe.

Quench & Tempered Chrome Silicon Commercial grade wire is used extensively in applications where static and moderate dynamic loading is a requirement. These springs require greater resistance to stress relaxation (load loss) at elevated temperatures. We have a process that can produce Chrome Silicon wire with tensile as high as 340 ksi (2,340 MPa).

Applications:

Typical applications include springs for automatic transmissions, appliances, railroad, farm implements, brake spring, and suspension spring applications.

Music Wire

General information:

Music wire is round, cold-drawn steel music-spring-quality wire, uniform in mechanical properties, produced to ASTM A228 Type 2. Type 2 wire is drawn from patented rod or patented wire (air patenting is not used), and offers the ductility needed for severe bending and forming applications along with excellent fatigue properties.

Applications:

Music wire is used in demanding, high-stress spring applications where superior fatigue life is required, as well as applications requiring good ductility for severe bending and forming.

Applications:

Typically supplied as feedstock for cold rolling into flat or profiled wire, for flat-spring, retaining-ring, and similar cold-formed spring products that call for a rolled or flattened cross-section.

Industrial wire weaving applications, such as woven screen and mesh products used in mining, quarrying, coal/coking, and sand & gravel operations (e.g., crusher screens and vibrating screens).

0.040″ – 0.375″ — Patented Screen Wire for industrial wire weaving applications (Modified Chemistry)

Specifications:

Made to order with modified chemistry; not produced to a specific ASTM designation. As with PAF, the customer specifies the required finish and properties.

PAF – Patented at Finish

General information:

PAF stands for “Patented At Finish” and is typically the last operation after the wire is drawn to its finish size or patented rod. The wire in this condition can be cold reduced further by drawing or rolling.

Applications:

Customer specific, typically where deep drawing or cold rolling require extra ductility during the forming process.

Size range:

0.080″ – 0.433″ (2.0 mm – 11.0 mm)

Specifications:

PAF is made to order and not to any particular specification. The customer will indicate the finish patented tensile that is required.
